In Japanese tradition, each colour of Oni embodies a human flaw: blue represents anger, which is driven out of the home at Setsubun along with the demon. This Japanese blue Oni mask is made in Japan using the hariko technique, a craft in which layers of washi paper and clay are moulded onto a form before being painted.
