The golden swirls decorating this tea caddy form the kanzesui motif, a stylised representation of swirling water associated with the Kanze school of Noh theatre. Around them, chrysanthemums, cherry blossom and plum blossom alternate with bands of traditional ichimatsu chequered pattern, all set against a deep black background that makes the gold details stand out. A clear plastic inner lid helps protect 100 to 150 g of loose tea from the air, while the domed outer lid completes the traditional caddy shape.
