Origami Earrings - Purple

Japanese origami flower earrings made from purple yūzen washi paper, with gold hooks and a decorative bead

Each flower is folded from a square of yūzen washi, a type of Japanese paper whose patterns are applied colour by colour – one screen per shade – using a screen-printing technique. The name refers to Miyazaki Yūzensai, a fan painter credited with the dyeing technique of the same name, which was first applied to kimonos.

As the folded design is cut from a single large sheet, the pattern never falls in exactly the same place: no two pairs are therefore ever quite alike, and yours will have its own unique design. Suspended beneath a faceted bead, the flower sways in the breeze and catches the light as it moves. Measuring 4 cm in total length, it is a piece of jewellery that looks stylish without weighing down the ear.
