In Japan, people have long preferred to keep themselves warm rather than heat their homes. In the absence of central heating, homes made do with a brazier or a kotatsu, and this was supplemented with padded garments worn in layers: the Japanese call this approach ‘saidan’, meaning ‘to take warmth for oneself’. These trousers are a direct descendant of this tradition, featuring a quilted lining with a diamond-patterned stitching that runs the full length of the leg. The elasticated waist is adjustable with a drawstring, the leg falls straight without being too tight, and there are two side pockets and one back pocket. Slip them on winter evenings to get through the night without shivering.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS
To look after your garment, wash it separately on its first wash at 40°. Use a laundry bag for the spin cycle. Air dry where possible and avoid the tumble dryer. Do not use bleach to preserve the colours. Ironing is recommended at a medium heat. The fabric is designed to resist shrinkage, ensuring your garment has a long life.
