Large Japanese Wind Chime Grass Meadow

Large Japanese fūrin wind chime made of cast iron, featuring a Sōgen-style meadow and insects motif

In the Edo period, ‘mushi-kiki’ involved climbing hills at nightfall to listen to the insects singing in the grass. This pastime was as popular as going to admire the cherry blossoms in spring, and Hiroshige even created a woodblock print depicting it. This large Japanese wind chime depicts a meadow and the insects that live there, on a 17 × 18 cm Nambu cast iron ornament. Hang it from a window, a glass door or under an eave. It weighs 460 g, so you’ll need a sturdy hanging point: a hook, a rail or a sturdy branch.
