In ancient texts, Japan is known as Akitsushima, the island of dragonflies. Samurai called it kachimushi, the ‘victorious insect’: it was said to be incapable of retreating, and its motif can be found on helmets and sword guards. On this large Japanese cast-iron wind chime, it is perched on a leaf, its wings folded. The ornament is 26.5 cm long, and this wind chime weighs 300 g in total. Hang it where there is a draught: a window frame, a balcony ledge or a low-hanging branch.
