Wooden craft kit – Japanese izakaya with LED
The word izakaya comes from sakaya, meaning sake shop, with the character for “staying” added on: customers used to take their bottle home, until they started making a habit of drinking it on the spot. That's how Japan's bars were born. This kit recreates one of these neighbourhood spots, with its counter, red lanterns, koinobori fluttering in the wind, and even a shiba dog sitting by the entrance. Its name, Choshi no Shitamachi, refers to the old working-class district of Chōshi, a port town in Chiba Prefecture. The 218 pieces take three to five hours to build, touch-sensitive LED included. Enough to fill an evening or two, and a lovely gift that stands out from the crowd.
