On this Japanese cast-iron wind chime, the mountain relief is cast directly into the metal and then highlighted with paint. As the wind turns the bell, it reveals Mount Fuji and a line of mountain ridges in turn. In Japan, the fūrin is usually a summer item; with its eternal snows, this one looks just as good in winter. A dry cloth is all that’s needed to look after it, and it’s best to bring it indoors on stormy days to protect the paintwork.
