Japanese fūrin wind chime in black cast iron, Arare design

Weighted by its cast iron body, the bell of this Arare Japanese wind chime remains still at the end of its cord, whilst only the tanzaku sways in the breeze. It produces a crisp, crystalline ‘ting’ that fades slowly. Hung near a front door, this cast-iron fūrin tinkles every time someone passes by, serving as a discreet doorbell. Its relief pattern is called arare, meaning ‘hailstones’ in Japanese, the traditional motif found on Japanese cast-iron teapots. Paired with a teapot in the same pattern, it makes a lovely set for any Japanese tea lover.
