According to a popular legend, a cat once waved its paw at a lord who was passing by the Gōtoku-ji temple in Tokyo. It is said to have invited him to take shelter just before a violent storm broke. Ever since, the maneki neko has stood guard at the entrances to Japanese shops and restaurants to attract customers and bring prosperity.
With this Japanese craft kit, you can make your own origami lucky cat, complete with koban gold coins and a bell, on a hanger with two rings that you can arrange however you like. The koban are inscribed with ‘senmanryō’, meaning ten million ryō, the ancient gold currency of the Edo period: you might as well aim high! Perfect as a gift for a business opening, a new job or a cat lover, it will soon find its place by a door or on a desk.
