In Japan, the Daruma is associated with major projects: you draw the first eye whilst making a wish, then the second when that wish comes true.
This Japanese origami kit allows you to create a wall wreath featuring two paper Daruma figures and a small ema wish plaque, like those hung in shrines. The kanji 招 and 福 on the figurines form the word ‘shōfuku’, which means ‘to attract happiness’, whilst the ema reads ‘kaiun’, a wish for good fortune.
This origami project takes about an hour – just enough time to think about the wish you’ll entrust to your daruma. Hung near a desk or in a hallway, this wreath also makes an ideal gift of encouragement for an exam, a new job or the start of a new year.
