Japanese noren curtain in burgundy openwork fabric with an Ichimatsu chequered pattern
In Japan, the noren serves as both a shop sign and a curtain: shopkeepers hang it out in the morning to indicate that they are open and take it down once the day is over. Originally, it was mainly used to block out the sun whilst allowing customers to enter without having to push open a door. This one is made in Japan from a loosely woven polyester fabric, with the Ichimatsu chequered pattern woven into the material. At home, it will look great in front of a bedroom door, at the entrance to a kitchen or in a storage area you’d rather keep out of sight. The burgundy red adds character to the room whilst remaining easy to coordinate with other décor.
To separate the two panels of your noren, take a pair of scissors and cut along the dotted line in the centre of the noren. It won’t fray. This allows you to choose the height of the opening in your noren.
