Stemming from the art of furoshiki,the azuma bukuro is a Japanese tote bag made from a single piece of fabric that is folded and sewn. To form the handle, simply tie the two corners together and adjust the knot to your liking. Its nikoshi chirimen crepe fabric, recognisable by its subtle texture known as shibo, was dyed in Kyoto using inkjet printing – a method that uses 90 per cent less water than traditional dyeing.
