In Japan, furikake is a dry seasoning mix sprinkled over rice to add flavour and texture in seconds. This version combines nori seaweed and sesame with crunchy flakes and a slightly sweet egg flavour. It is produced under the Urashima Nori brand, which originated near Kumamoto during the Taishō era (1912–1926). Sprinkle it over hot rice, mix it into an onigiri or add it to a bento for an easy boost of Japanese flavour. The resealable packet also helps keep it fresh and aromatic between uses.
