Japanese Curry Roux – Mild – Kyoto Craft, meat-free, made in Kyoto, 120 g packet (serves 6)
Japanese curry is quite different from Indian curry: thick, rich and comforting, it is closer to a stew than a sauce, with its character coming from aromatic spices rather than heat. This mild version stays true to that style. The spices are roasted over an open flame for warm, toasted notes, whilst a gentle sweetness and a hint of tomato create a beautifully rounded flavour without any heat on the palate. Served over white rice with tender vegetables, it is a great choice for children and adults who prefer their curry without chilli. The absence of animal fat also makes it lighter than many traditional Japanese roux-based curries.
