This handcrafted Japanese culbuto honors the Shinsengumi, a samurai brigade formed in the late 19th century to defend the shogunate. Wearing a blue kimono, a crossed white rope, and a headband marked with the character for "sincerity," this little warrior reflects the values of Bushido: loyalty, honor, and courage.
Like all okiagari dolls, he always stands upright—a powerful symbol of perseverance in the face of adversity. Handmade in Japan from washi and crepe paper, this figure is as meaningful as it is decorative.
