Baumkuchen is a cake of German origin that Japan has adopted and refined over the decades. Its name literally means “tree cake,” because its many layers form rings like the trunk of a tree.
In this version, honey gives each layer a warm, floral aroma that you can recognize from the very first bite. It is the kind of Japanese snack you can slip into your bag for a sweet break, or add to an assortment of treats from Japan.
