The design is, in fact, named after this technique, \u003cem\u003erokuro moyō\u003c\/em\u003e, ‘the lathe pattern’: each line represents a single brushstroke on this 8.5 cm \u003cstrong\u003eJapanese wooden doll\u003c\/strong\u003e. The head, meanwhile, bears the hallmarks of the \u003cem\u003eYajiro\u003c\/em\u003e lineage: the coloured lines forming a sort of headdress, and the two red accents of the \u003cem\u003etegara\u003c\/em\u003e, an ornament once worn in Japanese hairstyles.
