Women's nagajuban, a Japanese underwear to wear under the kimono
The nagajuban is a Japanese underwear that looks like a kind of white cotton dress. It's worn under the kimono to prevent it from coming into contact with the skin because cleaning the kimono is an expensive and complex task, contrarily to the nagajuban which is simple to clean.
This underwear is only worn under the kimono (and not under the yukata) and the only visible part must be the collar.
In order to clear your nape, an accessory is provided with the nagajuban, it's a rigid tongue called eri shin. This accessory slips into the hem of your collar to give it a nice shape.
Did you know that? The eri shin is exclusively reserved to women. The nape is considered like erotic at the women, which is why this part of the body is more or less exposed according to her age. Men, on the other hand, wear the collar of the kimono very close to the nape.
